WRITING DEVOTIONALLY and READING DEVOTIONS written by others.

Reading Devotionally.
Having been a Christian for nearly 50 years, there's one clear desire I find on God's heart. He desires that we know His voice, learn His words and become able to separate His voice from all other voices competing for our attention. He wants us to know Him, listen to Him and be led by Him.  He wants us to recognize His word from all other words, especially those words spoken by impostors. The King James and New King James translations are the closest to the original transcripts of the Bible. Other good learning translations are the Living Bible which I like especially as I read the book of Psalms.  I avoid "The Voice", "The Message" and all translations like them that deviate heavily from the original texts. "The Voice" actually leaves out the name of Jesus. No one needs that version.

Recording Caught Thoughts
God gives us His word. He gives us His Son, Jesus, the Living Word. He gives us the Holy Spirit Himself, to help us learn, hear and follow Him. We have more than we need to know, follow and grow in faith. Our devotion to Him often leads us to journal. I recommend everyone journal as we read His word and pray. Then write down the thoughts you catch while pondering God's word.
I call these "caught thoughts" - which are sometimes very shareable. Sometimes not.

Writing Devotionally.
Like the Psalmists I'm thinking sometimes, God wants us to write down the thoughts we've caught from prayer and pondering Him. Sometimes I think they are to be written just to and for Him, and sometimes just for us and only sometimes for others. Feeling like He wants us reading, knowing, loving and living HIS words, more than anyone else's. May He lead our reading and writing as we remember He is jealous. Clearly some devotionals print God's word out of context from cover to cover. I think God says things His way for His reasons, which are no doubt way more powerful and higher than our ways. All this is to say, the Bible is best and that we are to be carefully led if we write things concerning Him.

Holy Father, Awesome LORD, King God, Creator of heaven and earth, we come to You asking You to form our prayer. We sometimes read the words of others seeking to know You more. God would You cause us to always ask You if You want us reading the words of others or Your word? I thank You for some of the wonderful writings which have helped me learn Your word, written since Your word was written.
God, I ask no one read anything I write, before or unless, You've led them here. My heart is that we
all stay steady, fed regularly, grown daily and built up always by the disciplines in Your word. God,
please keep us in Your will, and in that place where we see Jesus and hear You. Cause us to trust and obey.

I love reading the Bible from cover to cover all year long. There is no better honor that to know and love our God, learn His word and seek to live it. I like writing devotionally, because I am devoted to God who is life. Christ Our Life. May I be found in Your will.  We ask You for the peace of Jerusalem. Thanking You in the matchless name of our King Jesus. AmenAmen.
