A King's Prayer.....keeping God Foremost, since He's "for all"

"O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations and in Your hand is there not power and might so that no one is able to withstand You?

Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever? And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying, 'If disaster comes upon us - sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine - we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.' And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir - whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them - here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit.

O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." 2 Chronicles 20:6-12. A prayer of King Jehoshaphat of Judah.

The Bible offers profitable studies of governors, their prayers, government formations and leadership patterns of good and of greed. I love this prayer from the heart of a king, King Jehoshaphat of Judah. I especially am heart-impressed with his opening and closing. "no one is able to withstand You" and "our eyes are upon You." In these times of uncertain governances all over the globe, where kings and kingdoms are being lifted up and brought down, it is comforting to note, as King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes, "there is nothing new under the sun."

God is in charge, sovereignly presiding over all enemy assaults.  He is now achieving and will yet execute final victory, not by might, nor by power but by His Spirit, in All Mighty Holiness. I believe these things, and like Job, "I KNOW that You can do everything and that NO PURPOSE of YOURS can be withheld from You." Job 42:2. The body of King Jehoshaphat's prayer concerns were framed by what God had done but included the king's own cry for justice. He remained reverential in prayer, mindful that God was working, even in the midst, of this enemy take over.  Jehoshaphat kept God foremost in prayer. He finishes his prayer acknowledging human limitations, and our lack of power to over come evil on our own. We know Jesus did that on the cross, once and "for all."

Father in heaven, timeless, ageless, goodness, greatness and source of all love, redemption, forgiveness, mercy, kindness, joy, wisdom, honor, holiness and so much more, we come to You in these times we don't fully understand. We want our leaders to KNOW You, rely upon You, believe in JESUS, pray relentlessly and to LISTEN TO YOUR COUNSEL. We pray our new American governors starting with the President-elect, are born again, by faith in Your Son, Jesus. Cause our leaders to accept Your warnings, seek Your counsel and lead our nation by faith in You. May we the people be found faithful, prayerful, thankful and busy spreading the GOOD NEWS in the midst of the evil news flowing all around us. Please wise up Your people. Give us more obedience to follow You closely, joyously and with all diligence. We ask You glorify Yourself in these dark times, Your way and for the sake of Jesus. Thank You for one more day on earth to serve You. Help us not to waste it. Amen.
