An "Evil" Little Study
I love to enjoy His glory, by soaking in the morning sunrise. Morning glory inspires prayer.
"And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one, For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." Matthew 6:13
This morning I woke up thinking about the evil one's lurking abilities. How he can trick us into listening to him and consequently, believing him. Oh yes, we all know there are consequences to believing his lies. Further I considered how often we repeat certain behaviors, even WANT to be lied to about certain things. Be honest. The truth is sometimes difficult to face so sometimes we hide and masquerade for a little bit. No bueno. Wasted living. Repeated sin. All these descriptors and more seem to cover our antics when we want to simply hide from the goodness of truth and believe lies. We volunteer for consequences when we do this, yet sometimes still expect blessing. Foolish. Common to us all. But we can be delivered from this once and for all. He knew we'd be like this. That's probably a good reason why He gave us His prayer, the Lord's Prayer!
Without praying this prayer, we are apt to relive sin, temptation and accidentally serve the evil one. No wonder our LORD gave us this model for daily prayer!!!
Notice how the letters that spell EVIL are in the word, DELIVER.
Notice how DELIVER can be scrambled to spell and say, RELIVED.
Notice how the letters that spell EVIL are also in RELIVED.
Notice how the letters that spell DEVIL are in RELIVED and DELIVER! There he is, complete with the word LIE. Boom, there it is, one of the devil's favorite tools, a lie.
Daily we are to pray and receive deliverance from the evil one. Do we? Do we pray for deliverance from evil and temptation? Or do we participate in evil, by reliving evil's lies, like, "one more drink won't hurt you, one more glance at that handsome man won't be dangerous" and so on.
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver from the evil one, For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
