Love Romney? Hate Trump? Have you met either one? Do you know them? God does and He unconditionally loves them both as much as He loves us. Over my lifetime I've made mistakes with my votes, judging a book by its cover and many other such wrong moves. John 3:16 always comes to my mind, maybe especially, when we're asked, to make choices about others. For me, America's election is about LEADERSHIP, not BELIEVERSHIP. Christians BELIEVE in our King who was and is, and is coming again. Our King loves Romney and Trump whether they know Him or not and essentially, that's what John 3:16 tells us. John 3:16 is not an "OUT OF CONTEXT SOUND BITE" framed to manipulate votes. These men's comments and actions that we see only on TV, may outrage us, yet God wants neither of them to perish. I think we agree, that our job is to pray for them and vote for the one person we feel God is raising up. We are not to correct each other, argue about the candidate's salvation or express our own opinions when we see or do not see via TELEVISION, TWITTER, FACEBOOK or any other media, what we might call a consistent walk of faith. We do not know these men like God does. If we fear God, we ought to want to sincerely choose the person He is putting before us. I want to notice who that is, knowing God's ways are higher and stretch way past election hit pieces, ads, ugly debates etc. We must all fight media manipulations. We are all subject to media manipulations, to slick talking debaters, to sound bites…all overcome when filtered by our Father. I doubt we would have voted for Moses, King David or Paul. All well known, flawed men and legendary leaders, chosen by our King. We believe in our King and pray for the leaders currently rising before our eyes. It's in God we trust or it's in our own, very limited opinions. For me voting is a matter of great research, listening, praying and following Jesus daily with a clean heart. Then, I ask Him for His choice and try to vote His way. Only He knows which candidate is truly His now, or will be tomorrow, or will never be, His. I try to be careful to take no offense and pray I give no offense. I believe Jesus loves equally. That we are all forgiven and saved by grace, because God is merciful. May we operate this election season in HIs grace. He alone raises up kings and brings them down for His reasons. He raised up Obama twice……I did not vote for him even once, yet I pray against the evil Obama has unleashed. I give Jesus my vote and ask Him for mercy on our very angry, opinionated, divided nation. This may be our last "free" election. The summer conventions do not look peaceful with all the hate groups planning demonstrations. Where we place our fear is more telling than who we vote for…..the cross of CHRIST is humanity's greatest equalizer, measuring stick and the stage for God's greatest gift freedom from sin, Jesus Christ our Savior and Friend.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send HIs Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17
