American Politics are in the Night Season
"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night." ("All About Eve") While most people misquote this as "It's going to be a bumpy ride," the actual quote works better for the movie. Bette Davis delivers this with the classic aplomb that made her one of the most loved actresses of her generation.
I think of this especially now, as American politics heats up. I feel that American politics is really in a "night" season. It's dark in politics. We're drenched in deception and corruption. The candidates do not represent answers, but reflect the problem. They both need relentless prayer as both claim to trust Jesus. America has legislated the Bible and prayer out of schools, relegating them into a mythology, philosophy etc. Believers know, Christianity is a relationship with the living Lord Jesus. His presence is in our midst. In the midst of this present darkness, He is still, light. The more common misquote: "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride," is almost wisdom for today as we navigate the darkness of our election processes, all the way into our summer conventions. Leadership and freedom are at stake. Thank God, He is over, all we're under and He's gone before it all.
Counting on His omnipresence now, more than ever. He will never leave or forsake us, so we are "forsaken-free!" Time to spread the good news, because He wants none to perish.
