We've lost a wonderful man, servant of Jesus Christ and a much commended and honored Los Angeles Police Officer. Killed instantly while on his last call in a traffic tragedy. A husband, father, son, brother, friend, college graduate of my alma mater and a man who lived for others. Unexpectedly, his life was taken. In Christ, we are reconciled and ready to enter eternity. Officer Nick lived ready.
At his service today, a family member read from Romans the following passage:
Romans 5:5-11
"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through him we have now received the reconciliation."
It is foolish not to believe this. It's our choice. While we breathe it is never too late to believe in Jesus as the thief on the cross reminds us. It is foolish not to believe Jesus. Hope does not disappoint, now or ever. Choose Jesus. Choose to be reconciled, it will never be forced upon you. It's your choice.
OUR GOD PROVIDES CHOICES - life and death choices, never a forced choice, we are free to choose.
Choose life. Choose to listen for the voice of God and obey Him for our good and His higher ways.
"See I have set before you today life and good, death and evil in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments, His statues and His judgements that you may live and multiply;" Deuteronomy 30:15
"…I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live, that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice and that you may cling to Him for He is your life and the length of your days;" Deuteronomy 30:19b-20a
It is foolish not to choose to love the ONE who loved you first. It is your choice. Officer Nick chose God and lived and gave his life for God and others. God is the God of all comfort. If you have no comfort, come to God for He is all comfort and He will lift you up.
God of all Grace, please draw those who will believe in You today, drawing them out of selfishness, out of hatred of You, from cold, fear-filled dead hearts into new life in Christ. Many are just this one decision away from You. We pray for them now to choose You. You are so good. Thank You for Officer Nick and his faith in You, our all mighty God. We ask for many to be saved this day in the matchless name of Jesus and we ask for peace to Israel. Amen.
